Yan Ee Toh (b.2000) is a Singaporean composer based in London, whose music fuses elements of spontaneity and organicity. Yan Ee’s music deals with dichotomies within nature - both the phenomena of our physical world, as well as the nature of things. Her works explore gestures through the amalgamation and morphing of timbres and harmonies.

Yan Ee’s recent interests in interdisciplinary work and traditional instruments have led to performances of musical responses to Manet’s A Bar at the Folies-Bergère at the Courtauld Gallery (London), collaborations with Singaporean Erhu musician Calista Liaw, and the School of the Arts Ethnic Ensemble (Singapore).

Having worked with RIOT Ensemble, CHROMA, Onyx Brass, TACET(i) Ensemble, Orkest de Ereprijs, b-l duo, Salastina, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, Quartetto Maurice, ensemble chromoson, Ensemble Kochi, Singapore Chinese Orchestra, and NOISE Ensemble, amongst others, Yan Ee’s music has been performed in 9 countries across Europe, Asia and America. She was awarded Winner of the Boston New Music Initiative Young Composer Competition, Concertia Emerging Composers Fellowship, Runner-Up Prizes at the Black Bayou Composition Award and International Composition Institute of Thailand, Special Mention at AMAT Women Composers Competition, and Diploma at the New Music Generation International Composer Competition.

A graduate of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Ho Chee Kong and Adeline Wong, Yan Ee currently pursues a Master of Music at the Royal Academy of Music on scholarship, studying with David Sawer and Rubens Askenar. Her studies are kindly supported by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust and Trailblazer Foundation.

Besides composing, Yan Ee is a pianist, chorister, and arranger. She is also interested in arts management, actively exploring the curation and marketing of productions as well as interdisciplinary collaborations.
